Uncle Marty

“Harper’s Island,” from CBS Paramount, is a serialized drama revolving around a group of friends who are terrorized when they meet on an island off the Seattle coast for a destination wedding.
Hamlin will play the groom’s (Christopher Gorham) uncle Marty, an outgoing, charming womanizer who attends the wedding.
Hamlin replaces Bill Pullman, who played the role in the presentation but only agreed to do it because of his relationship with executive producer/director Jon Turteltaub. He was never expected to stay on if the project went to series.

“I don’t really vacation. To me, getting back to the ranch is like a vacation. Montana, the big sky country — people go there to relax, but I don’t think of it as a traditional vacation. Being out there slugging posts into the ground and pulling hay bales is a vacation from sitting in chairs in front of computers answering emails.”

Weekend Box Office Report: August 8 to 10

There are two films outside the Top 10 that pulled in higher averages than any film in the Top 10 [Elegy and Dream of Life]…Also making an impression on people’s taste buds is the winemaking ensemble piece, Bottle Shock. Bowing on 48 screens and featuring a cast as diverse as Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman, the film pulled in over $6K per screen and will be expanding its tasting next week.

I saw Elegy Friday night and the theater was packed. Didn’t look like Bottle Shock was pulling in a lot of people, but I guess it did so so in 48 theaters…

happily uncorked!

Bottle Shock opened today in limited release. People in Northern Cal wine country will have to wait until August 15th but not in SF. My favorite bp line in the movie was when Time Magazine called him after the Paris tasting. Said he: “you can take my picture if you like but I’m really not that pretty.” Made me chuckle out loud (why, he’s the prettiest face in the movie!).

Bill Pullman & Chris Pine Interview

I think I don’t want to play a father. I do that too much at home. I’m tired of that. But in this particular case [Bottle Shock], I thought there was some real great things that – – normally now in stories, fathers are the villains. Most of the scripts, they say, "Here’s a father part" and it’s like you’re the asshole, you’re the unbendable one, then it takes the child’s wisdom to deliver you to a more enlightened place. It’s such a bullshit thing as any parent knows. The real fortitude of life is not enduring your own arrogance or our illusion of central position. It’s like trying to work with the child’s thing to make them comfortable and secure and all that. So in this particular case, to read this relationship where I didn’t have to think about all that shit, just say, "You know what? You’re fired. I drew a line, you went over the line, goodbye." You can’t do that anymore.
