The journeyman actor — who was in Pasadena over the weekend to talk to reporters about his new role on the upcoming Starz series “Torchwood: Miracle Day’’ — told the Globe that he happily “conscripted’’ to voice the [recent UMass] spots, which follow up a previous on-screen appearance in a UMass commercial a few years back. “I really did have a great education there and I was lucky to get graduate school assistance,’’ Pullman says of his time working toward the master of fine arts degree he received in 1980. The star…says he’s returned to the area many times because his oldest daughter went to nearby Hampshire College. Pullman will be popping up in two television projects this spring and summer. In addition to his role in the latest iteration of “Torchwood’’ — in which he’ll play against type as a murderer and pedophile — he’ll be portraying JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in HBO’s film adaptation of “Too Big to Fail.’’…“He was called ‘Obama’s favorite banker,’ ’’ says Pullman of Dimon, “so he’s a very interesting guy who tried to walk all the walks.’’ The cast also includes William Hurt, Paul Giamatti, Cynthia Nixon, and…James Woods. “It was a little bit like a UN for actors.’’
